I am a meditative art teacher and I post daily tutorials on Youtube and on Blogspot to help spread the word about meditative art and its importance in spreading joy and relaxation around the globe.
If you're a beginner and want to start drawing Mandalas you need to know that no artistic skills are requires and you also need to be confident that anyone can draw a Mandala once they learn the few basics of this art. Therefor, get your pens ready and let's start!
In this tutorial I show you a fun trick to draw a mandala using only a compass. You can replicate it in any color you want, it could be blue, red, etc.
It would also look very beautiful if you color some of the sections created. I will definitely create another tutorial very soon with some colored sections to show you how we do it.
Mandala art is for everyone to enjoy. It doesn't require any artistic skills, and it is easy and simple once you learn the few tips and tricks needed as a beginner.
For this project your need:
Materials:
Compass
Protractor
Pencil
Ruler
Eraser
A4 paper
0.2 fine drawing pen (brand used: UNIPIN)
Directions:
1- First mark the center of the paper and trace an eight cm radius circle.
2- Trace a vertical line crossing the center, and measure 2 cm from each side of the center.
3- Use these last two marks as centers for two 4 cm radius circles. Then, using the same centers, trace two 2 cm radius circles.
4- Now that the outline of the yin yang is ready we will start decorating it.
5- In one of the sides trace 16 different curves using your compass, taking as a center of these curves the tail of the side you're working on.
6- Fill these curves with shapes as shown in the pictures or in the video below.
Drawing a Mandala is a very relaxing activity that allows us to unwind and live in the moment.
This art requires a lot of concentration, therefor your mind will be forbidden from wandering to negative places and all the focus will be on your piece of art. Besides, repetition of patterns was proven to regulate the heart beats and as a result lower the blood pressure, control the breath and put you in a better mood.
How to draw a Peacock Mandala
I have written it many times, and allow me to write it again, everyone can draw a mandala. This art does not require any artistic skills. All you need is your concentration and your will to free the artist within you.
The tutorials I post on my channel and on my blog are tailored for beginners. The videos show you, step by step, how the art projects are done. And the articles give you the measures, materials and patterns needed for you to achieve the Mandala.
The Materials needed for this Mandala art are:
-Compass -Protractor -12" Ruler - Pencil - Eraser - Coloring pencils - Fine drawing pen 0.2 - A4 white sheet
1- Start by marking a point in the center of your A4 paper.
2- Trace a horizontal and a vertical line crossing the center. Trace five circles with the following radii: 2 cm, 4 cm, 6 cm, 8 cm, and 10 cm. Trace grid lines that are separated by 30 degrees.
3- Draw the peacock body following the example below and the video tutorial I shared with you. Notice that the heart of the peacock coincides with the center of the mandala, and his head reaches the outline of the third circle, when his bottom reaches outline of the second circle.
4- Start filling the grid sections with patterns and shapes as shown in the video tutorial. Below, are five pictures representing the five different stages. Although, for drawing the patterns, I always recomment watching the video.
5- The fifth step is to color the peacock. In this tutorial I used regular coloring pencils. You can use any kind of colors, watercolors, markers, fine pens, etc.
The basics in coloring a mandala are the following: Always start from the center, color the repeated patterns with the same color, never overthink your choice of colors, and dare to use contrasted colors.

My blog and my channel are for every person thinking twice about starting to draw.
I have tailored both sites especially for beginners and in the goal to deliver a very important message: Everyone can draw!
Meditative arts are for everyone, for every single person.
We are born creative. Our hectic lives tend to push us away from this creativity and drown us in routine. Practicing meditative art will unleash your inner artist.
So welcome to my blog and channel and hope you will enjoy my tutorial:
This is a mandala sun and zentangle rainbow.
What is the difference between mandala and zentangle?
A mandala is composed from a number of circle organized around the same center. As for the zentangle, it is a well defined shape, such as a round a square an animal, etc, that is filled with doodles in a none circular pattern like the mandala.
The materials needed for this tutorials are the following:
Colored Stabilo fine point 88 ( the colors used codes are: 88/50- 88/40- 88/54- 88/44- 88/43- 88/36- 88/57-88/41-88/55)
Step by step drawing instructions:
First- Rainbow Zentangle
1- Take the right bottom corner of your paper as a center and trace 9 different circles with the following radiuses: 1 cm, 2 cm, 3 cm, 4 cm, 5 cm, 6 cm , 7 cm, 8 cm, and 9 cm.
2- Using the colored stabilo pens start filling the circles with patterns.
3- In the first circle trace intersected curves using the 88/50 dark red Stabilo.
4- In the second, trace woven lines using the vibrant red 88/40.
5- In the third circle, trace seamless curves using the orange Stabilo pen 88/54.
6-In the fourth, trace wavy lines, and fill them consecutively as follows: fully colored, points, vertical stripes, use the following yellow pen 88/44.
7- In the 5th circle, draw green filled circles using the 88/43 fine Stabilo pen.
8- In the 6th circle draw woven lines again using the 88/36 dark green.
9- In the 7th circle, draw seamless zigzags with light blue 88/57.
10- In the eighth circle, draw intersected curves using the 88/41 Stabilo fine.
11- In the last circle, draw diagonal wavy lines. Fill some with purple and others with small circles.
(Check the picture below)
This is the rainbow Zentangle. As you see, each circle is decorated differently. You can follow the picture, the instructions above and the video on my channel ( shared below) to have a good clear picture of how to create this Rainbow.
Second- Sun Mandala
1- Trace the Mandala grid taking the middle of the purple curve as a center for the circles.
The circles radii are as follows: 6 cm, 7 cm, 8 cm, and 9 cm.
The grid lines are separated by 20 degrees.
(check the picture below)
This picture represents the measure of the Mandala grid needed to draw the Mandala sun. Check the instructions above.
2- In the space of the 6 cm circle, retrace the grid lines in black. Trace very small circles on the left side of each line as shown in the picture below. Retrace the outline of the 6 cm circle.
3- In the space between the 6th and the 7th circle, and in every grid section trace a triangle (check the pic. below)
4- In between each two triangles, draw a smaller triangle.
5- Trace an inner outline inside of each large triangle, then trace the small progressive arcs and color the blank space in black as shown below.
6- Trace long triangle, taking as a starting and ending point the summit of the previous large triangles, and the last circle outline as a limit for the summit.
7- Trace another inner outline on the right of each long triangle.
8- Inside the small triangles: mark a point at the summit, trace two curves underneath it and color the space between them in black.
9- As a last step, draw triangles between each two long triangles. Draw an empty small circle at the summit of each. Trace a double inner outline at the bottom of each of those triangles and color it in black.
