This tutorial includes both a mandala and a zentangle.
What is the difference between the two?
A mandala, a word that means circle or universe in the Sanskrit language, represents a number of circles organized around the same center. In these circles we reproduce symmetrical patterns while respecting the lines of a circle. 
A zentangle represents a well defined shape in which we have doodled. The patterns in a zentangle can be randomly drawn, not necessarily symmetrical and definitely not repeated in a circular movement.
All Mandalas are circular when zentangle can take any desired shape from geometrical shapes to animals
So in this tutorial, we have a zentangle wolf and a moon mandala. Therefor, you will be able to learn both techniques. In addition to that, I have added a beautiful watercolor background to give the wolf a strong rise. To see how the background was made check the video at the bottom of this post.

Directions

Step one of the Zentangle Wolf:
Trace the outline of the wolf as shown in the illustration below using a 0.8 black drawing pen.

Step two of the Zentangle Wolf:
Decorate the inside of the wolf as shown in the illustration below using a 0.2 black drawing pen.

Step one of the moon mandala:
Get a compass in which you can install a black drawing pen. In this compass I have used the Stabilo fine 88.

Step two of the moon mandala:
Draw the circles of the mandala grid using the compass shown above. The center of the circles is the opening of the wolf's mouth.
The radiuses are: 3 cm, 4 cm, 6 cm, 7 cm, 7.5 cm, 8 cm and 9 cm.

Step three of the moon mandala:
Trace the grid lines of the mandala separated by 10 degrees.

Step four of the moon mandala: 
Draw a pointed petal on every 2 grid sections.

Step five of the moon mandala: 
Inside the pointed petal, draw a swirl at the bottom of each. Then between every two pointed petals draw a tear drop. 
Step six of the moon mandala: 
On the next row, draw one arc petal on each grid section.
Step seven of the moon mandala: 
In the space between the 3rd and 4th circle, draw a pointed petal on each 2 grid sections.

Step eight of the moon mandala:
Fill each pointed petal with arcs from big to small. Color the blank spaces in black.

Step nine of the moon mandala:
Draw a tear drop between each 2 pointed petals.
Step ten of the moon mandala:
On the next row, draw one swirl in each grid section.
Step eleven of the moon mandala:
Retrace the grid lines in the space between the two last circles.

Do you like birds? I love them and I consider them a source of positive energy. I remember back when I was at school, the teacher asked us to write an essay about a person or a living creature that inspires us. I chose to write about the bird and the sense of freedom it gives me when I look at it.
In this drawing I chose to add a bird to my mandalas to give it a sense of positivity and freedom.
This tutorial offers you the know how of drawing two mandalas, a front mandala and a backward mandala. The measures of the mandala grids are different and the style of each mandala is also different.

If you are new to mandala art allow me to explain to you the importance of practicing this art daily or at least few times a week.
As you know, expressing ourselves help reduce the toxins produced in our bodies from negative events. And there are many forms of expressions besides talking, such as singing, dancing, exercising, drawing and coloring.
Meditative arts hold within a wide number of beautiful and easy arts that allow every person to practice.
One of these arts is Mandala art. 
Drawing a mandala was first created by Buddha as a form of meditation. And the circular shape of a Mandala was inspired by the universe and the word Mandala means, in the Sanskrit language, circle or universe. Drawing a Mandala helps you concentrate and forbid your brain from wandering to negative places.

materials needed to draw a mandala
A4 cardboard
Compass

Directions:
1- Take the third of your paper vertically. Then take the center of that third and place a mark to use it as the center of the circles.

2- Draw a Mandala grid with the following measures: 
Trace six circles with following radiuses: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 cm.
Trace grid lines separated by 10 degrees.

3-Starting from the center of the grid, retrace the outline of the center circle and keep it empty. On the second row, trace a regular petal on each two grid sections.

4- Complete your mandala by drawing on the next row a regular petal on each two grid sections. Each petal should start from the top of one petal and end at the summit of the next.

5-Repeat the previous step on the 4th row.
6- Now, to complete this front Mandala, repeat the regular petal drawing process but this time by extending the petals on the last two rows.

7- Now start decorating these last petals by tracing a leaf pattern in each by drawing a line in the center of each petal and diagonal stripes from each side.

8- Using the red, fushia and orange, trace a curved line on one side of each petal as shown in the picture below.

9- Fill each leaf with green swirls, one green swirl on each diagonal.how to draw a mandala
10- Retrace the 5 cm radius circle's outline using the black drawing pen without crossing over the petals.
11- On top of this flower mandala, draw the bird and decorate it with beautiful blue and black patterns. Check the video shared below to see how to draw the bird.
12- Take the line between the two petals below the bird abdomen as the center of next mandala grid.
Now trace a mandala grid with the following radiuses: 2,4, 6, 6.5, 7, 8.5 and 9 cm. 
13- In the center circle draw one petal on each grid section. Please note, that this mandala is supposed to be behind the first mandala, so the patterns should not cross over the first mandala.
Retrace the outline of the center circle of this mandala. Color the blank space in black and fill the inside of the petals with stippling.

14- On the next row draw one arc petal on each grid section.

15- Next, draw one regular petal above each arc petal and fill it with arcs and color the blank space in black.

16- Between each 2 petals draw a tear drop and mark a point on top of each, and retrace the outline of the circle.
17- Now on the next row, trace one regular petal on each two grid sections. Then fill the inside with tear drops, and color the blank spaces with black.

18- Retrace the outline of the two close circles, and draw little circles between the two lines.

19- Trace in each grid section one half regular petal and decorate its top. Retrace the outline of that last circle.

Few years back we started seeing Mandalas everywhere. Literally, everywhere. On clothes, accessories, home décor, etc. And all eyes were directed towards this art, that was highly recommended by psycho-therapists as a therapeutic art that helps a person relax and alleviated stress. Studies has also shown the positive effects Mandala art has on the whole body, not only on our mental health. As it regulates our heart beat, lower our blood pressure and control our breath.
Even though the mass population discovered this art recently, but Mandala art goes way back in history and it has very deep spiritual meanings. 
Mandala is a Sanskrit word that means a circle or universe. It was first invented by Buddha and was transmitted to his disciples as a method to help them meditate and achieve mindfulness. Buddha was inspired by the movement of the universe, and the construction of the world we live in. Everything we are surrounded by, in nature, is a Mandala. Look around you and you will definitely find a Mandala hidden somewhere. 
In time, a mandala was created by a compilation of religious symbols. Colored sand was and still is the main drawing material used by Monks in the creation process. They spend hours and days in the creation of their art piece. They disconnect with the outer world and focus on the Here and Now which allows them to achieve a complete mindfulness. 
Once the Mandala is achieved, the Monks wipe it off as an expression of the impermanence of life.

Mandala art doesn't require any special skills. Anyone can practice this art and draw a Mandala, all you need is to learn the simple basics steps and you're good to go.
To draw a Mandala you need few simple things:

1- Get into the mood. Get settled in a nice quiet place where you can be alone if possible, have a very comfortable seat and put a soothing meditative music on.
2- Get your materials ready. In general, Mandala drawing requires the following materials: compass, protractor, pencil, eraser, rules and a fine drawing pen. (a 02 is perfect for beginners) (Check the brands I recommend)
3-Drawing a Mandala is an art that can be practiced on any surface you choose: a paper, cardboard, wall, clothes, etc. So choose the surface that feels right for you.
4- Choose or get inspired by a design. Always try to come up with an original design. In other words, try to put yourself into your work or drawing, get inspired by others but do not copy unless you were allowed to.

Directions
This full page Mandala is composed from two Mandalas, one in front of the other. Therefor, you will need to draw two Mandala grids as follows
1- First, choose a spot on the the top left of your paper to be the center of your front Mandala, and trace 7 circles with the following radiuses: 1, 2, 3 ,4, 5, 6, and 7 cm.
2- For the second mandala, mark the center of your A4 paper and use it as a center for the next grid circles. Using your compass, trace 17 circles filling the whole paper, but without crossing the circles of the first grid. The radiuses of the second mandala are as follows: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12 ,13, 14, 15, 16, and 17 cm.

3- For the front mandala, trace grid lines separated by 10 degrees.
4- For the second mandala, trace grid lines separated by 20 degrees.

5- Start filling the mandalas with shapes as shown in the pictures I have shared with you below.
Follow these pictures step by step:

a- Start with the front Mandala. Keep the center circle empty for the moment. Start filling half of the second tow with regular petals and decorate them as shown below. Click on the picture to enlarge it and get a better view.

b- On the second half of the row draw arc petals on each 2 grid sections. As for the center circle decorate it as shown in the picture. Enlarge for a better view.
c- On the third row trace a regular petal on 2 grid sections, then draw a second outline for each petal. 
Decorate the first half of the petals with a double pointed tear drop and a line, and fill the other half with stippling.

d- Between each 2 petal draw a tear drop.
e- Retrace the outline of the circle and color the space between the tear drop a
f-Next, on each 2 grid sections draw a pointed petal and mark a point towards the summits. Draw a double pointed tear drop between each 2 petals. Then trace on the outside of each pointed petal another outline.

g- Above each pointed tear drop draw a regular petal and fill it with arcs as shown in the picture. Enlarge the picture to see it better.

h-Draw another outline for each petal.

i- Trace a third outline and Fill the space created with arcs and color the emptiness in black.

j- Now trace a fourth outline and mark a point on the summit.

k-Draw a tear drop between each two petals and retrace the outline of the circle.

l- Color the blank space in black.

m- Draw a regular petal on each 2 grid sections reaching the final outline of this mandala. Decorate each petal with a flower. In order to do so, trace a very small circle in the center of the petal, and trace tear drops all around the circle.

n- Draw tear drops between each 2 petals, retrace the outline of the last circle and fill the blank space with stippling.

o- For the second Mandala, leave the center empty for the moment, and trace on arc petal on each grid section of the second row. Decorate the bottom of each arc with a swirl.

p- Draw a double outline for all the arc petals traced previously. Then, on the next row, trace one petal on each grid section.

q-Color the double outline in black. Then, trace on one side of the petal a double line, then trace a line on the other side to get the pattern shown below. Fill each petal with stippling.

r- Draw between each 2 petals a tear drop and keep them white.
Then, starting from the summit of each petal and ending at the summit of the petal next to it, trace petals with double outline exactly like you did  in step (p).
Draw a tear drop between each 2 petals and color it in black.
Retrace the outline of the circle

s-On the space extended  between the next two rows, trace a regular petal on each 2 grid sections. On the inside of each petal, trace a line on the left, then one on the right side of the petal. Repeat three times for each side. Then draw a tear drop in the center of the petal. Color it in black and stipple on one side of the tear drop.
For the center, decorate it as shown below.

t-Now, between each 2 large petals, draw a small tear drop. Color it in black. Trace an outer outline for each tear drop. and keep it white. Then, trace a regular petal on top of each tear drop, reaching the same line as the previously drawn large petals. 
Decorate the inside of these petals with arcs as shown in the picture below.

s-On the right side of each small petal trace a curve and keep it white. 
Then, on the left side of each large petal draw a line that stops at the line traced around the small petal. Color it in black

t- First retrace the outline of the circle.
Second, on the next four rows, draw a petal on each 2 grid sections and fill it with tear drops. 
Third, recreate the pattern shown in the picture below, by tracing double outlines then filling every other space with arcs and tear drops.

u- Between each two large petal trace a small tear drop. Draw a line in the center of each tear drop.
Draw another tear drop reaching the 3rd row. Color it in black.
From the summit of this tear drop trace five curves from each side.
Retrace the outline of the circle without trespassing the borders of the large petals.

v- Above the retraced outline, draw two regular petals on each one grid section. Give each petal a bold outline on one side as seen in the picture.

w- Decorate the inside of these petals with a flower pattern .

x- Retrace the outline of the circles.
On the next row, draw one pointed petal drop on each two grid sections. 
In the center of each pointed petal draw tear drop petals. To do so, draw a tear drop in the center, then two tear drops from each side. Last draw a tiny black drop on each side.
Then, draw two other internal outlines for the pointed petal.
Last, between each two pointed petals, draw a large tear drop that is one row higher then the pointed petal. Decorate it with arc petals and color the blank spaces in black.

y- At the summit of each previously drawn pointed petal draw tear drop leaves as shown in the picture below.
Then, retrace the outline of the circle, and draw 4 arc petals on each grid section. Retrace the outline of the outer circle as well, and color in black the blank spaces.
Last fill the empty spaces of the page with stippling.
