The first tutorial is clear by its title, it explains how to trace a mandala grid. But, what is a mandala grid and why do we need it?
A mandala grid is the base structure needed to draw the patterns symmetrically and identically. To draw it you need a compass and a protractor. If these are not available you can use circular shapes from around the house.
The second tutorial is the one we are developing today. It shows you the list of Mandala basic shapes. These are the shapes you can choose from to draw a Mandala. And these basic shapes are perfect for beginners as they are simple, neat and easy.
The third tutorial contains an explanation of how to place the shapes on the grid. When you are in front of a grid loaded with circles, lines and sections you will definitely wonder how to make this thing useful without complicating your life. So in this third tutorial I explain it to you.
The fourth tutorial is how to color a Mandala. Now, the use of colors must be improvised. But what I teach you is in fact how to practice mandala coloring to benefit from this wonderful relaxing activity.
The fifth tutorial has everything we have mentioned before with much more details.
The sixth tutorial is the most important. I show you how to make use of all the information collected from the tutorials mentioned before to create or improvise your own mandala instead of replicating mandala tutorials you will be able to create your own designs.

My Meditative Mandala Coloring Books
I have meditative mandala coloring books published on amazon that include beautiful hand-drawn designs. I personally prefer drawing my mandalas by hand as I believe that every line will carry a story.
Every hand made product has a value that manufactured products don't have.
Mandala patterns are created from a combination of mandala basic shapes. To learn more about Mandala basic shapes CLICK HERE
In this tutorial the patterns are as follows:
1- The first pattern is based on a regular petal as a parent shape. Inside this regular petal I drew another regular petal that is shorter but as wide and decorated it with curved lines. Around the border of the smaller petal I drew a number of long petal arcs and colored the blank space in black. The inside border of the large petal is decorated with arcs.
2- The second pattern is an ensemble of swirls tied together.
3- The third pattern is based on an arc petal and inside of this arc I drew a number of tear drops from large to small, starting from the center. The blank space is colored in black.
4- This pattern is a combination between a regular petal, swirls and tear drops.
How to use these patterns:
As a first step in every mandala, you should prepare a mandala grid. Start by marking a point that will be the center of all circles. Choose the measures of the radii and trace your circles.
Using the protractor, divide these circles into equal sections. So you can either mark a point every 10 degrees, 15 degrees, 20 degrees, 30 degrees or 45 degrees. It all depends on how you want your Mandala to look. More lines mean tighter grid sections and more patterns to fill.
I have shared with you the video posted on my YOUTUBE channel showing you how to trace these patterns step by step.

My Meditative Mandala Coloring Books
I would like to introduce you to my coloring books. So far I have two books published on Amazon, and I have 2 books being assembled that I will, soon, hopefully, add to this list as well.
The books on Amazon are the following: Mandala coloring book by maria hajj and Summer mandala coloring book by maria hajj.
The first book is all mandalas satisfying all levels. The second book contains mandalas, zentangles, sea animals and summer fruits.
I truly hope that you will add my books to your collection of coloring books!
Mandala drawing and coloring is very beneficial to ones physical and mental health.
A mandala was first created by Buddha who was inspired by the universe and its circular shape and created this drawing method to help monks enter in a state of mindfulness in order to meditate.
At the time, drawing a Mandala included a number of religious symbols and meanings, but today the mandala is geometrical and we use few shapes inspired by the nature like peals and leaves.
Materials needed:(Find all the materials needed- click here)
Compass
Protractor
12" Ruler
Pencil
Eraser
Stabilo fine point 88
Drawing technique:
1- Mark the center of your paper and trace 10 circles starting from a 1 cm radius circle, then adding 0.5 cm to each new circle (The radiuses are: 1 cm, 1.5 cm, 2 cm, 2.5 cm, etc.)
2- Trace grid lines every 10 degrees. In order to do so, trace a horizontal line crossing the center of your circles, and then trace a vertical line that is also crossing the center. Place your protractor main line on the horizontal line and the 90 degrees on the vertical line. The center of the protractor must coincide with the center of the circles. Mark a point every 10 degrees. So put a point on 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, etc. until you reach 180. To learn more about mandala grids CLICK HERE.
Then, using the ruler, trace lines joining the center with each marked point and crossing all the circles.
3- Start filling your mandala with shapes. Two of the basic shapes will be used in this project: petal and arc petal. To learn more about Mandala's basic shapes CLICK HERE.
4-Choose the color order. I have chosen to put the colors in this order: red, purple, fushia, pink, orange and yellow. Fill the centered circle with regular petals following the exact color order. In the second circle, draw the first red petal as follows: take as a starting point the summit of your first red circle and an end point the summit of your first purple petal. Then, for the next purple petal do the same: start from the summit of the first purple petal drawn in the centered circle, and end it at the summit of the fushia petal, and so on. Follow this method to fill the whole Mandala sections with petals.
5- Once your Mandala is filled with shapes, start creating patterns. Decorate each shape with a number of basic shapes in order to create beautiful patterns. Follow the video shared below to see the patterns I used.
6- Once the drawing process is done start creating waved shadows using the stippling technique. For more about the stippling technique CLICK HERE

My Meditative Coloring Books
Besides being a meditative art teacher, I also illustrate meditative books to help achieve relaxation and mindfulness. I would like to introduce you to two of my books "Mandala coloring book- 40 original hand-drawn designs" and "Summer Mandala coloring Book- 40 original hand-drawn designs".
The first book includes only Mandalas with different levels from easy to hard and I have also included my very first mandalas. The second book is inspired by summer so it has mandalas and zentangles. You will find a lot of sea animals and summer fruits as well.
Both books contain tips on coloring and benefiting from meditative arts.
If you wish to add these books to your collection kindly check the links below:
If I want to give you a simple definition of a Mandala, I will tell you that a Mandala is a number of circles, decorated with geometrical shapes, and organized around the same center.
What is a Mandala grid?
A Mandala grid is the base structure needed in a Mandala drawing, especially for beginners, to help achieve symmetry easily.
The grid is composed of a number of circles, that will be traced around the same center, and a number of grid lines.
The measures of a Mandala grid are not standard and they totally depend on the design you have in mind.
As a beginner, you might find it difficult to know how to come up with grid measures alone. Therefore, in this blog and on my channel, I have posted a number of simple mandala designs that each has different grid measures in order to show you how it can be done.
Below I will share with you different Mandala grid models with a side picture of the final mandala result. And I will link each model to its video tutorial or blog article.
And at the end of this post, there is a video tutorial that represents in details what a Mandala grid is and how it's drawn.
